1. Through research it has been acknowledged that the food we eat directly affects behaviour. Having a balanced meal in the middle of the day will aid concentration in the classroom, and help contribute towards improved learning.

2. It is recommended that we eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day to protect us against illness. On a daily basis a school meal offers vegetables, salads and fruit, for children to choose from, therefore contributing towards the '5 A Day'.

3. The menus on offer maximise the use of high quality fresh ingredients. The small number of convenient products used, comply with strict minimum nutritional standards regarding sodium, saturated fat, carbohydrates and protein content.

4. A choice of wholesome, healthy menu options are available for children to select from. Our key objective ‘Journey to Good Health’ is to ensure that all children have the knowledge to make informed choices about the food they eat.

5. There is no use of genetically modified food and food containing colours and dyes, which cause allergies and hyperactivity.

6. Catering staff follow detailed standard recipes and have received training in food preparation and food standards to help ensure that the quality of meals is consistently high.

7. Recipes have been adapted to reduce fat, salt and sugar content, whilst still appealing to children.

8. We aim to make sure that eating together is fun and a school meal with friends will help develop social skills.

9. Our menus fully comply with the new government’s new food and nutritional standards.

10. By eating a balanced diet, children will have the energy they need for a busy day at school.
