Sheffield School Meals
Following Jamie Oliver's School Dinners TV programme and much criticism of school meals in the media, the Food In Schools Sheffield Group have been working to further improve the school meals in Sheffield. The group is a partnership between the Children and Young Peoples Directorate, the Sheffield Primary Care Trusts, the Sheffield Healthy Schools Programme,Voluntary Organisations and Scolarest (school meals provider). The aim of the group is to encourage Sheffield children to choose healthy food and drink choices throughout the school day.
The school meals website has been developed as a direct response to requests for more information on the service from both parents and pupils. We would encourage you to use the feedback forms for the Nursery Infant and Primary Schools and Secondary Schools
In August 2006, Scolarest, who are the leading provider of school meals in the country, commenced a contract with Sheffield City Council to provide school meal services to the majority of nursery infant, primary, secondary and special schools. Find out more about our new school meals provider, Scolarest, in the documents below.
From 1 September 2006, new Government food based standards will take effect, placing stringent requirements in relation to the nutritional content of school meals. Working closely with schools, Scolarest’s nutritional experts have developed a new and exciting menu that will meet the new food and nutritional standards.
More information regarding the new Government food base standards and the transformation in school food can be viewed at the School Food Trust website.
Scolarest are currently assessing the special dietary requirements of pupils who attend special schools. The website will include specific special school menus once this piece of work has been completed.
Scolarest have also recently started a campaign called 'Trust' . This Campaign is aimed at raising awareness of healthy school meals and information can be found at www.Scolarest.co.uk/trust.
We hope that you find the Sheffield School Meals Website both interesting and informative.
