Parent Governor Representatives
There are Parent Governor Representatives (PGRs) in each Children's Service Authority in England. The role of the PGR is, primarily, to hold their local authority to account by consulting with and feeding back to parents on discussions and decisions relating to education.
To become a PGR, the applicant must be a parent governor and at the time of election, must also be the parent of a child on the register of one of the Authority's schools or the parent of a child receiving education outside school with funding made available by Sheffield Local Authority. Each local authority must appoint at least two, and no more than five, PGRs to each committee dealing with education issues.
PGRs are elected by other parent governors to represent the views of all parents. Sheffield currently has two Parent Governor Representatives serving on the City Council's Children and Young People Scrutiny and Policy Development Board.
