School Dress Code

School "uniform" was abolished officially by Sheffield City Council a number of years ago. However, many schools within the city, both primary and secondary, have in the last few years adopted a "dress code". Schools feel that the adoption of a dress code can make a considerable contribution to the school's ethos and image. In most cases parents/carers are consulted on the adoption of a dress code before it is put in place. Options of colour, style, etc. are given and a ballot is usually held. Parents are usually made aware whether the dress code is optional or whether there is a strong recommendation that it should be worn. All parents and children should be made aware if there are sanctions applicable if the dress code is not worn.

For more information parents and carers should contact their child's school. A full list of schools in Sheffield can be found on the Schools List.

There are no Children and Young People's Service grants available to purchase school dress code clothing.
