Advice and Conciliation

Advice and Conciliation Service is an impartial service based within the Children and Young People's Directorate.

The Service aims to help all sections of the Children and Young People's Directorate in Sheffield become more responsive to comments, complaints, criticisms and suggestions from parents and carers, young people and other service users.

The Service offers support to parents or carers who are dissatisfied with the service they have received from either the education service or from a school by:

  • Providing advice on rights, roles and responsibilities
  • Providing advice on the procedures for making complaints
  • Providing an independent view of a situation
  • Contacting or investigating schools or education departments if necessary
  • Seeking further advice from appropriate sources if the Service is unsure on a point

You can download a useful leaflet below giving more information about the service.

Within the City Council there is also the Parent Partnership Service which aims to provide impartial information, advice and support to the parents of children with special educational needs. This service currently operates a small library of leaflets, books, audio and video tapes available for parents and professionals to loan.
