Transfer from an Infant School to a Junior School
Admissions Over-subscription Criteria
The following over-subscription criteria confirm the priorities for admission to Sheffield community and voluntary controlled schools.
Please note that the Governing Bodies for voluntary aided and foundation schools are the Admission Authority and establish admission arrangements and allocate school places. Broomhill Infant School is the only Foundation School in Sheffield. The school is independent from the Local Authority and the Governing Body is responsible for setting and applying admission criteria.
Over-subscription Criteria for Sheffield Community and Voluntary Controlled Junior Schools
1.Looked After Children
Pupils who are in public care (Looked After) who
- are looked after at the time of an application for a school is made
- will be looked after at the time when the child is admitted to school.
2. Statement of Special Educational Needs(SEN)
This category does not refer to pupils with a statement of SEN for whom any mainstream school, with support, can provide appropriate education. This category aims to ensure admission for those pupils for whom it is, in the professional judgement of the Authority, essential to admit to a particular school because of their specific needs and specific resources of the school. This opinion will have been formed n consultation with parents, professionals and the relevant school.
3. Attendance at a Linked Feeder School
This category applies to the transfer from year 2 to year 3 at separate infant and junior schools. Priority for a place at the junior school will be given to children who attend the designated linked infant school at the time of allocation. In the event of over-subscription within this category, normal admission priorities (ie, categories 4, 5 and 6) would be applied4. Catchment AreaChildren who normally reside in the catchment area of a school, as defined by the Authority, at the allocation date, and who apply for a place there will be considered after points 1 & 2.5. Brothers and Sisters (Sibling)
A sibling is defined as a child who permanently or usually lives at the same address as:-
- A brother and/or sister (to include half brothers/sisters)
- A stepbrother and/or stepsister
- The child for whom the application has been made.
And in both cases will attend the preferred school at the point if entry.6. Other ApplicationsAny child who does not fit into one of the above categories will be considered next. Places will be allocated up to the published indicated admission number.Tie BreakersFor any admission category that is over-subscribed there are two stages of further consideration;
- Where exceptional medical, social or special educational needs are demonstrated, an application may be prioritised by the Admissions Board but only within the same admission category.
- If there are no exceptional circumstances, all other applications will be prioritised first by the admission category and then by distance from the home address to the school building. This is a straight-line measurement from the centre of the school building to the centre of the home.
