School Access Scheme
The objective of the School Access Scheme is to provide financial assistance to students who are disadvantaged due to financial restraints, disability, learning difficulties or other circumstances to enable them to continue in education after the age of 16.
Who is eligible?
Sixth Form Students need to meet the following criteria: -
- They must be a UK resident and have been living in Sheffield on 30th June 2008.
- The student must be studying on a full time course leading to a formal qualification e.g. A'level, GCSE, Btec, NVQ or GNVQ.
- The household income threshold between 6th April 2007 and 5th April 2008 must be £20,000 per annum or under, but this may be higher if there are other children in the household.
Help Available
Students not in receipt of EMA can apply for assistance with general study expenses- £100 per term to a maximum of £300 per academic year.
All eligible applicants may make requests for other financial assistance at the time of application, or at a later date within the academic year.
They may include requests for assistance with the following to a maximum of £500 per academic year.
- Reimbursement of interview expenses and UCAS fees if you attend an interview at a university or other higher education establishment. Up to two interviews may be claimed at the cost of the standard return rail fare.
- Field trips/other course expenses- Assistance towards the cost of field trips and other course related expenditure may be considered.
- General stationary items and computer equipment are not covered by the scheme.
- Other Costs - Assistance may be given for any exceptional need. Particular consideration will be given to students with disabilities or learning difficulties, young parents and those in local authority care
