Extra help for those with Dependants

Adult Dependants

If you have another adult member of your family who is financially dependent upon you, you may be eligible for an Adult Dependants' Grant. Your income and that of your dependant will be taken into account in determining whether you qualify and how much you are entitled to.
 
Grants for child dependants were replaced by the  Child Tax Credits paid by the Inland Revenue from April 2003.  Click here for further details of Child Tax Credits.
 
The maximum Adult Dependant Grant for 2008/09 is £2,575.  This grant is means-tested.
 

Who is eligible?

You must be a full-time student.
 
You must be attending a designated course (e.g. degree, HND, PGCE) at a publicly funded University or college.

Adult Dependant Grants do not have to be repaid.
 

Childcare Grant

If you have dependent children in accredited childcare you may qualify for a grant to cover your  childcare costs. It will be based on 85% of actual costs subject to a maximum grant of £148.75 per week for one child or £255 per week for 2 or more children.
 
Childcare grants do not have to be repaid.
 

Parents' Learning Allowance

A grant of up to £1,470 and a minimum of £50 for students with dependent children.  This grant is means tested on dependants' income (including that of your husband, wife or partner).
 
Parent's Learning Allowance does not have to be repaid.
 

How do I apply?
