Additional Help from your University or College
Access to Learning Fund
This is available through your university or college and provides extra help for students on low income who may need extra financial support for their course and to stay in higher education.
The fund:
- can meet particular costs which are not already being met from other grants;
- can help if students are in financial hardship;
- can provide emergency payments for unexpected financial crises; and
- can help students who may be considering giving up their course because of financial problems.
Your university or college will make a decision as to whether you are eligible for help from the Access to Learning Fund based on your circumstances.
How to Apply
You will need to apply to your university or college student services department. The university or college will tell you what information you need to provide and how they will assess your application.
How it is Paid
Payments are usually given as grants and do not have to be repaid, although sometimes they can be given as short-term loans. The university or college will also decide whether to pay you in a lump sum or in instalments.
