Introduction
The Lifelong Learning and Skills Service offer a variety of training programmes and courses.
Further Education Programmes (FE)
These include courses in ICT, both for beginners and for people who wish to improve their existing knowledge in Microsoft Office packages, computer repair, maintenance and installation or graphics. There are also courses in Music and Music Technology, Childcare, Health and Social Care, Construction, Horticulture, Catering and Cleaning as well as Business Administration. Our courses can help people who are employed to update and improve their skills and to progress in their careers. For people who are not in employment our courses will provide job related skills. Many people also choose to study with us do so for personal development and because they enjoy acquiring new skills and learning for its own sake.
Apprenticeships (Work Based Learning)
Apprenticeships are available to young people aged 16 -24 both within the Council, through its partners and local employers. We can offer Apprenticeships in the following vocational areas; Administration, IT technicians, Childcare, Care of the Older Person, Construction, Horticulture, Painting and Decorating, Catering and Customer Service. This year we are also able to offer Adult Apprenticeships in Construction.
Apprenticeships for All
Apprenticeships for All is a project that is specifically designed to enable residents of Burngreave aged between 16 - 60 to access sustainable employment. This is achieved by a tailored package of support for the individual that could include a work placement, training, help towards the cost of childcare, a wage subsidy for the employer. Individuals who are either employed or undertaking a work experience are supported in the workplace, as is the employer.
Entry to Employment (e2e)
E2e is available to young people aged 16 – 18 who need additional help and support to enable them to access work, training and/or and Apprenticeship Programme. E2e provides tailored support and enables young people to participate in a variety of vocational areas and to improve their English and maths.
Workstep
Workstep is a tailored package of support for individuals who have a disability (as determined by Jobcentre Plus) and are in the workplace or wish to gain employment. The support for the individual can take a variety of forms such as additional training, workplace mentoring, and adaptations to the work role. In some instances a wage subsidy can be made available.
