Vocational Skills Programme

The Vocational Skills Programme
 
There are 3 main components to the Vocational Skills Programme in Sheffield
Direct
, VSP Entry and VSP Foundation.

1. Direct Programme
These are new curriculum opportunities for Y10 students this academic year and include:
  • NVQ 1 Business Language Units, co-ordinated by Silverdale school;
  • BTEC Retail and Distribution and Customer Care at The Source, Meadowhall;
  • NVQ 1 Catering and Hairdressing in partnership with Sheffield college, STL and Dimensions;
  • NVQ 1 Engineering in partnership with All Saints School, CTI and AET;
  • NVQ 1 Construction and office administration in partnership with Sheaf training and Manor Lane/Kier;
  • NVQ 1 Animal Care in partnership with Rother Valley College and Sheffield College
  • NVQ 1 Public Service in partnership with the peaks Centre at Sheffield College
  • BTEC Sport in partnership with Dearne Valley College at the English Institute of Sport
  • BTEC Care in partnership with In Touch Care
  • CACHE Childcare in partnership with Sheffield College
  • Joinery in partnership with Sheffield College

2. The Vocational Skills Programme at Entry Level (formerly SRB Youth Theme)
The target group for the entry programme is current Y9 students who would benefit from between a half day up to two days off site, with the remainder of the time in school. The programme starts with an employability skills programme followed by an entry or level 1 programme. Each school is allocated a number of training days. The school will work with a placement officer from the enhanced curriculum team in the summer term to match students to placements.

3. The Vocational Skills Programme at Foundation Level (formerly PAVE and South East Plus)
The target group for the Foundation Programme are current Y9 students who would benefit from a full day or half day off site, sampling vocational areas and specialising in an area after the first half term. Schools normally provide students in groups of 10 (other models are available through negotiation).
 
It is recommended that member of school staff accompanies students to placements. This programme is unsuitable for students who are unable to cope in College or Adult training environment. There are a wide range of vocational options which include:
Construction - Carpentry
Painting & Decorating
Catering
Hair and Beauty
Computer maintenance
Video Film Making
Retail
Office Administration
Child Care
Motor Vehicle
