Learning for Life

Learning for Life is transforming 14-19 work related learning in our schools. Sheffield Education Directorate, in partnership with secondary schools, Sheffield Futures, the Sheffield College, the Learning and Skills Council, Sheffield First for Learning and Work and Business Education South Yorkshire, is developing new learning pathways that will provide school students with the skills, knowledge and experience that will help them progress to work, further education or training. This will be achieved by mixing study in the classroom with opportunities to train at college or learn in the workplace.

The new curriculum pathways aim to address the fact that all young people of all abilities are different and therefore learn, and are motivated, in different ways. By working closely with local employers in a number of key sectors that are important to the local economy the programme aims to make the curriculum more relevant to teenagers who are interested in careers ranging from software engineering and bioscience through construction and catering to retail and running a business - and many more besides. Learning for Life offers, in total, 27 different specialised courses linked to the world of work from Applied GCSEs to NVQs leading to Apprenticeships.
