Headteacher's Report

The content of the termly Headteacher’s Report to the Governing Body is not prescribed by legislation.  General guidance called Headteacher's Report - A Suggested Framework is available on the Governornet website and a suggested proforma and model Headteacher's Report are available to download at the bottom of this page.

It is for each Governing Body to agree the content they would like to see and the format in which the Report is presented.  Some guiding principles are:

  • To focus on school improvement priorities and progress on implementing plans

  • Not to unnecessarily duplicate information dealt with by Governing Body Committees

(The Headteacher’s Report is a mechanism to provide all Governors with a summary of information which is explored in greater detail in Governing Body Committees and to make all Governors aware of the discussions which need to take place at Committee level)

  • To draw attention to the national and local context and implications for the school

  • To help Governors to fulfil their key roles:

    • Overseeing the strategic direction of the school
    • Acting as a critical friend
    • Accountability

  • To provide data and highlight action required by the Governing Body.
