Changing the School Name
A proposal to change a school name must be determined by a unanimous vote of the Governing Body. Any Governor who is unable to be present at the meeting when the vote is taken will be able to vote by proxy. Proxy voting is not allowed in any other circumstances.

Schools should check online that there is no school with the same name already by searching on Edubase using the school's interface login (available from Technical Support on 0870 1202527). The DCSF no longer require schools to formally ask them for approval to change to a particular name.
Governing Bodies should confirm the change of name with the Local Authority before voting on the proposal. Contact the School Organisation Team on (0114) 273 5358 with any queries or for further details.
