Pay and Grading Review

The City Council has been carrying out a pay and grading review for staff employed under NJC Local Government Services conditions of service and pay (i.e. school support staff).

 

The City Council has to carry out the review so that it can comply with:

 

 

To meet these requirements, the City Council is using an approach known as ‘Job Family Modelling (JFM)’.  Further information about the approach and progress to date can be found in the updates for schools which can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.

 

Under the Education Act 2002, the Governing Body is responsible for deciding who should be appointed to the post, their hours of work, the duration of their contract and, within certain parameters, their grading and remuneration.

 

The Local Authority remains the legal employer in all community schools, and in particular remains responsible for ensuring that the requirements of equal pay legislation are complied with.  Therefore the regulations under the Education Act 2002 require Governing Bodies to consult with the Local Authority about the proposed appointment including the grading and remuneration of the post and is wider than an awareness of equal pay implications.
