Headteacher's Report
The content of the Headteacher’s termly report to the Governing Body is not prescribed by legislation. General guidance is available on the Governornet website and a suggested proforma and model report are available to download at the bottom of the page.
It is for each Governing Body to agree the sort of content they would like to see and the format in which it is presented. Some guiding principles are:
- To focus on school improvement priorities and progress on implementing plans
- Not to unnecessarily duplicate information dealt with by Governing Body committees*
- To draw attention to the national and local context and implications for the school
- To help Governors to fulfil their key roles:
- Overseeing the strategic direction of the school
- Acting as a critical friend
- Accountability
- To provide data and signposting to action required by the Governing Body.
* The Headteacher’s Report is a mechanism to provide all Governors with a summary of information which is explored in greater detail in Governing Body committees and to make all Governors aware of the discussions which need to take place at committee level.
