Constitution of the Governing Body
From 1 September 2003 Governing Bodies have been able to choose their own size and make-up from a range of options. The available models are based on guiding principles which will give Governing Bodies greater flexibility to adopt a constitution that suits their school’s particular circumstances best, whilst ensuring that the balance between the different stakeholders is maintained.
Governing Bodies were required to review their constitution by 1 September 2006. Guidance on constitutional models can be found in Statutory Guidance on the School Governance (Constitution) (England) Regulations 2003 on the Governornet website.
