Governor Recruitment - Support for Schools
Sheffield Governor Support Team appoints Local Authority Governors on behalf of the Local Authority and offers support to schools in recruiting and retaining other Governors.
If the Local Authority is unable to find someone to appoint to an LA Governor vacancy, schools can put forward their own nominations which will be considered by the appointment panel. The panel is made up of Governors representing the Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative parties and the Sheffield Association of School Governing Bodies (SASGB).
We work closely with the national School Governors One Stop Shop to identify and appoint Governors with management skills.
As well as filling LA Governorships we offer support to schools in identifying Community Governors, conducting Parent Governor elections, and encouraging parents to stand for election.
This includes:
- Workshop events at, or local to, the school, which explain the Governor's role
- Targeted and general publicity in libraries, community centres, etc.
- Working with the press and local radio to raise the profile of school governance
A summary leaflet describing 'How to Become a Governor' can be downloaded from the bottom of the page. This can be used as a display poster, and can be customised to the requirements of the school.
