Do you want to be a Governor?
School Governing Bodies are made up of:
- Parent Governors
- Staff Governors (including the Headteacher - unless they choose not to be a Governor)
- Local Authority (LA) Governors
- Community Governors
- Foundation Governors (in Church and Foundation schools)
- Sponsor Governors (in a few schools in Sheffield)
Governing Bodies vary in size from 9 to 22.
Governing Bodies may also have Associate Governors and may invite Observers (with or without speaking rights) or co-opt non-Governors onto Committees (with voting rights).
If you have particular skills or experience or can represent a particular part of the local community you may want to become involved in this way.
Find out more about what Governors do, or apply for a position, by downloading the documents below or visiting Governornet, the website for School Governors set up by the Department of Children, Schools and Families.
