Learning Mentors
Learning mentors are an additional resource of professionals in schools that give time, flexibility and expertise to pupils, parents and carers and schools in order to overcome barriers to learning.
The purpose of the Learning Mentors Strand is to:
- reduce truancy and exclusion
- reduce the incidence of disaffection
- increase the effectiveness of preventative action on a whole school basis
- tackle pupils' low expectations and self-esteem and raise achievement
- improve early intervention and pastoral support for pupils
- monitor the progress of targeted children and young people
- improve transitions into and out of school, and where appropriate the LSU
- contribute to a co-ordinated and multi agency approach to supporting individuals and groups of children and young people
