Single Person Discount

A full Council Tax bill assumes that there are at least two people (aged 18 or over) living in your home.

Do you live on your own?

Do you share you home with your children and they are under the age of 18 years and you are the only adult living there?

If you can answer yes to either of these two questions you may be able to claim a 25% reduction on your bill, known as a Single Person Discount.

Claim Your Discount

If you are claiming a discount because someone has left your home we would like to know where they have moved to. This will help us check your claim.
Normally, you will not be allowed a discount if someone has left your home for a short period of time, or intends to return in the future.

Cancel Your Discount

If you are already receiving a discount and another adult moves in with you, you must notify us of any change within 21 days, clearly stating the date this change took place.

To let us know that your single person discount should be cancelled please use the online cancellation form

Other Discounts

You may be able to claim a 25% reduction if you live with another person 18 years old or over but either you or the other person is not counted for Council Tax purposes, for example a full time student or an 18/19 year old still at school - see other discounts for more information.

Other Reductions

You may be able to claim other reductions off your Council Tax bill. If you would like to find out more, please look at reducing your bill.
