Payment By Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the easiest and cheapest method of making payment, both for you and us. In addition, by reducing administration costs, paying by Direct Debit helps to keep the level of everyone's bill down.

 

Choose one of five payment dates. Tell us if you want to pay on the 1st, 7th, 15th, 23rd or the last day of the month. We will always give you 14 days notice of the amounts to be taken from your bank account. 

 

 

Your Council Tax payments normally end in January, but by choosing to pay by Direct Debit you can extend your payments through to March. This will reduce your monthly payments.

 

 

We can take your instructions to pay by Direct Debit over the telephone. To do this, ring the Council Tax helpline on 0114 2736633. Please have your cheque book with you. We will then send you an amended bill confirming the dates and the amounts of the payments we will be taking from your bank account.

 

 

When you agree to pay by Direct Debit you are automatically covered by the following guarantee:

 

This guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that take part in the Direct Debit scheme. The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society. If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, Sheffield City Council will notify you at least 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If an error is made by Sheffield City Council or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid. You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time, by writing to your bank or building society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us.
