Recovery Costs 2008/9

The cost of recovering any outstanding debt is extremely high. It involves a large number of people and Court time. The costs added to your account for non payment are calculated so that they are not a burden to those who pay their Council Tax duly.

 

 

There are no costs for receiving a reminder or final notice.

 

 

If you are summonsed to the Magistrates Court the cost is £42.00.

 

 

On the Hearing Day the Council will obtain a Liability Order. This costs £25.00.

 

 

If you fail to provide information the costs are £50.00 plus a fine of £50.00.

 

 

Each time the bailiff visits your home a cost is incurred. The cost of the first visit is £22.50 and £16.50 for all subsequent visits.

 

 

If your belongings are removed for sale at auction, there are removal costs charged on a sliding scale depending on the debt outstanding. There is an additional fee to cover the cost of the auction.

 

 

If you are summonsed to a Committal Hearing the cost is £37.00.

 

 

If you fail to appear, the arrest warrant costs are £48.00 with bail and £58.00 without bail plus £10.00 for each Liability Order.
