Children's Centres - an overview

Children’s Centres are a new way of supporting families with children under 5.  They offer integrated childcare and education, health, family support, help with finding jobs and training, drop-in sessions and groups.  Children’s Centres bring services closer to families and put them all in one place, so it’s easier for them to get the services, advice, help and information they need all in one go.

 

Children's Centres are being developed and rolled out accross the city in 3 phases so that every community will have a Children’s Centre by 2010.

 

The first 13 Children’s Centres (Phase 1) are located where support is most needed, and the initiative is now being extended.  In Phase 2, a further 18 Children’s Centres were developed, ensuring that all areas within the 30% most disadvantaged have access to a Children’s Centre.  Phase 3 Children's Centre are now being developed, to find out more visit the Phase 3 Children's Centre page.

 

 

A new children's centre is being built for the Stocksbridge, Deepcar and surrounding area and is due to open in January 2009. We're running a competition to give local residents the opportunity to name the centre. Please email your suggestion to bernadette.hossack@sheffield.gov.uk, or call 0114 281 1881. Alternatively, pop into the Step Community Resource Centre (located at 464-466 Manchester Road) and complete a competition entry form.
