Start Up Phase
Start up is the most important phase of all, as it is when you test whether the proposed project is workable and worthwhile. Decisions that are made here will affect the direction of the rest of the project. Therefore you need to make sure that before resources are committed you ask some basic questions to make sure the project has a solid business case or justification.
This stage has the following outcomes:
- The Project Sponsor produces a Project Mandate
- You conduct a Project Assessment Workshop covering:
- Producing a Project Brief that describes what the project is hoping to achieve
- An initial Risk Register
- Initial Stakeholder List is produced
- A decision on the project's scope using the Project Assessment Matrix. This will identify the relevant Project Managers Checklist.
- The Project Approach is decided
- A first draft of the Business Case
The next section introduces how the project is started and provides a downloadable template for the Project Mandate.
