Acupuncture

The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 requires premises and individuals offering acupuncture to be registered with us.
 
 

Terms     

 
If you offer acupuncture in Sheffield you must be registered with us.
 
Both the premises where the acupuncture takes place and individual operators must be registered and once registered a certificate of registration will be issued.
 
 

Costs

 
A fee of £250 for the premises and £50 for each operator is charged.
 

Eligibility criteria    

 
You must provide specific information including details of your premises and any previous convictions for practicing without registration in this field.
 
Registration is not required if the acupuncture is undertaken at a business or premises where there is supervision of the activities by a person registered as a medical practitioner.
 

Regulation summary        

 
The relevant legislation is the Local Government Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1982 (as amended by the Local Government Act 2003). It is an offence under the Act to undertake acupuncture if the premises are not registered with the local authority.
 
 

Application evaluation process           

 
The premises will be inspected to ensure that our byelaws are being complied with.
 

How we will notify you    

 
It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from us within 28 days of submitting your application, please contact us.
 

Timescales

 
We will endeavour to process all applications for acupuncture registration within 28 days.

Appeals

If a registration is suspended or cancelled the registration holder may appeal to the Crown Court.
