- How do I make changes to a Premises Licence once it is granted?
What is a premises licence?
A premises licence is a single authorisation that allows a premises to be used for one or more licensable activities.
‘Premises’ means any place and includes a vehicle, vessel or moveable structure.
You must specify when making your application, which activities you wish to hold on your premises and the hours and days they will take place.
How do I apply for a premises licence?
If the premises you are proposing to use are within the Sheffield boundary, you need to make an application to us.
You can either contact us for an application pack or download an application form and guidance notes at the bottom of the page.
Please note that we are unable to accept electronic application forms. Please print and complete a copy of the form. We are also unable to take payment via the internet. You can pay by cash, cheque or postal order.
How long will it take for me to get my Premises Licence?
Once you have submitted your correctly completed application to the Licensing General Section and the responsible authorities, the minimum time it will take is 28 days.
However, this time period may be extended if any objections to your application are received. Please apply well in advance of requiring your licence as you will be unable to carry out any licensable activities until your application has been determined and issued to you.
What will my Premises Licence look like?
The licence is issued in two parts; the premises licence and the premises licence summary.
The licence must
- specify the name and address of the holder
- include a plan of the premises to which the licence relates
- if valid for a limited period, specify that period
- specify the licensable activities for which the premises may be used
- if the licensable activities include the supply of alcohol, specify the name and address of the individual who is the premises supervisor in respect of the licence
- specify the conditions to which the licence has effect.
The summary is an abbreviated version of the full licence and must be displayed at the premises.
If any changes are made to the licence, the original licence document must be returned to the Licensing General Section for amendment.
How long will my Premises Licence be valid for?
A premises licence remains in force until it is surrendered by the holder or revoked following a review of the licence.
If the licence states that it is for a time limited period, the licence will be valid until that time period is reached.
Also, a premises licence lapses if the holder of the licence
- Dies
- Becomes mentally incapable
- Becomes insolvent
or until the business is dissolved.
Please contact us immediately if any of these situations occur.
How do I make changes to a Premises Licence once it is granted?
You must notify the Licensing General Section if you make any changes that affect your licence
- If you wish to make a variation to the times, days, licensable activities or physical shape of the premises, you will need to apply for a variation of your premises licence
- If you appoint a new Designated Premises Supervisor
- If the licence is transferred into another name
- If the holder of the premises licence changes his/her name or address
- If the designated premises supervisor changes his/her name or address
