Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers
The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condenser Regulations 1992 were introduced due to a number of serious outbreaks of legionnaires disease linked to cooling towers. The regulations require all occupiers of buildings which have wet cooling towers or evaporative condensers to notify the local authority of the installation of this equipment.
Notification summary
Person(s) in control of premises are required to notify us if wet cooling towers or evaporative condensers are situated at premises in Sheffield.
The person in control of premises must also notify us of any changes or when the equipment is decommissioned or removed from the premises.
The primary reason for the notification scheme is to ensure that the location of cooling towers/evaporative condensers are known if there is an outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease.
Also the notifications assist with identifying cooling towers /evaporative condensers for routine inspection by enforcing authorities.

There are no fees for notification.
