Motor Salvage Operators

Sheffield City Council has a statutory duty under the Motor Salvage Regulations 2002 and the Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001 to administer the provisions of the Act.
 
 
 
A motor salvage operator is anyone who carries on a business:-
 
  1. Wholly or partly in the recovery for reuse or sale of salvageable parts from motor vehicles and the subsequent sale or other disposal of scrap of the remainder of the vehicle concerned;
  2. Wholly or mainly in the purchase of written-off vehicles and their subsequent repair and release;
  3. Wholly or mainly in the sale or purchase of motor vehicles which are to be the subject (whether immediately or on a subsequent re-sale) of any of the activities mentioned in paragraphs 1 or 2; or
  4. Wholly or mainly in activities falling within paragraphs 2 and 3.
 
 
 
You need to complete the relevant application (available below in the downloadable documents) and submit it with a fee of £75 to the Licensing General Section.
 
A copy of all applications for motor salvage operators is sent to South Yorkshire Police for their comments.
 
Generally all applications will be dealt with within 28 days of the date of application, however there may be occasions where an application has to be placed before the Licensing Board which is likely to result in a delay in determining an application.
 
 
 
Each registration will be valid for a period of three years from the date on which the entry is made in the register.
 
The registration is renewable after this three year period and a further fee is applicable.
