Location of Site & Description of Works: 

The works comprise the construction of an engineered rockfall barrier along the southwest slopes of the Parkwood Springs Site of Special Scientific Interest Beneath two rock ridges and bordering the Parkwood Industrial Estate.

 

The Contractor will undertake a ground investigation and design and build a permanent rockfall protection barrier on the slopes to replace the temporary barrier previously constructed adjacent to the buildings on that side of the industrial estate.  The subsequent removal of the temporary barrier will not form part of the works.

 

The works also include for the removal of unstable material on the ridges by scaling of the rock faces and the clearance of boulders from the existing rock trap ditches.

 

The permanent barrier is to be designed to withstand impact from rockfall boulders with a specified energy.

 

The anticipated start on the site will be March 2009 with a construction period of 4 weeks.  Access for the investigation will be available from January 2009.
